Streets and Roads AROUND the Churchfields Primary School

This is the School Hall - it is where assemblies and concerts are held, where P.E. lessons take place and also the school dinners are served.

This is outside the main entrance in School Street looking over towards Hodgkinson Street.

The shelter on our playground, it is wooden and keeps children and parents dry when it is raining.

Two views of the front of the school - the nursery is where youngest children are educated aged 3 and 4. You can see the dentist's sign which is next door.

The black and white stripes painted on the road are known as a zebra crossing - it is where children can cross the road safely - cars have to stop by law when someone wishes to cross. What do you have in Italy to hlep people cross the road ?

Le strisce nere e bianche dipinte sulla strada sono conosciute come "attraversamento a zebra" (strisce pedonali) -è dove i bambini possono attraversare la strada con sicurezza - le macchine si devono fermare per legge quando qualcuno desidera attraversare. Cosa avete in Italia per aiutare le persone ad attraversare la strada?

Our comments about the photos of Francavilla / I nostri commenti sulle foto di Francavilla

My class looked at the maps on Tuesday and enjoyed searching for the streets which you named. Then, I showed the class your photos today - they thought the town of Francavilla looked about the same size as Chesterton. (between perhaps 5,000 - 10,000 people)

Martedì la mia classe ha osservato la mappa di Francavilla e si è divertita a cercare le strade che avete nonimato. Poi, oggi ho mostrato alla classe le vostre foto - hanno pensato che il paese di Francavilla sembra circa della stessa grandezza di Chesterton( forse fra 5.000 - 10.000 abitanti).

Luigi Ferrara Street : buildings look colourful, nice balconies, we dot really have balconies in UK, one girl thought street looked narrow, another girl said "wide" so we can't agree ! I like the shade provided by the trees.

Via Luigi Ferrara: le costruzioni appaiono colorate, bei balconi, in realtà noi non abbiamo balconi nel Regno Unito, una bambina ha pensato che le strade sembravano strette, un'altra ha detto "ampie" perciò non riusciamo a metterci d'accordo! Mi piace l'ombra procurata dagli alberi.

A. Cianca other entrance (?) It was nice to see mountains in the background, we do not have countryside like this on our doorstep, I noticed the cars seemed quite small, one girl thought they were parked in a strange way. (not in line or parallel with each other !!!)

Un'altra entrata di "A. Ciancia"(?):é stato bello vedere le montagne sullo sfondo, noi non abbiamo campagne come queste ad un passo da casa nostra, ho notato che le macchine sembrano abbastanza piccole, una bambina ha pensato che sono parcheggiate in uno strano modo ( non allineate o parallele con le altre).

Viceconte Street : nice weather, cars parked straight ! Mountain scenery, street looks wider here. Houses are quite light in colour. (white or cream) Most houses in UK are dark brown (or dark red bricks)

Via Viceconte: Bel tempo, macchine parcheggiate dritte!Scenario montano, le strade sembrano più spaziose qui. Le case sono di colori molto chiari( bianco o crema). la maggior parte delle case nel Regno Unito sono marrone scuro (o di mattoni rosso scuro).

Is the calvary part of the church ?

Town hall looks pretty / fancy. We like the trees planted outside. We noticed the Italy flag and the European Community flag and the notice board. What sort of messages will be on the notice board ?

Il Municipio sembra bello/elaborato. Ci piacciono gli alberi piantati fuori. Abbiamo notato la bandiera italiana e la bandiera della Comunità Europea e la bacheca degli annunci. Che tipo di messaggi saranno sulla bacheca?

We noticed shutters across the windows - to keep the hot sun out ? We do not need those in UK because our weather very rarely goes above 20 degrees celsius.

Abbiamo notato le imposte alle finestre - Per riparare dal sole caldo? Noi non le abbiamo nel Regno Unito perchè il nostro tempo molto raramente va oltre i 20 gradi.

The snow gives a lovely atmosphere - again we only see it maybe 5 or 10 days per year and even then it will not be very heavy. (thick) We have heavy snow in Scotland where they ski-ing but that is 400-500 kilometres North of us !

La neve dà una bellissima atmofera - ancora, noi la vediamo solo forse 5 o 10 giorni all'anno e anche allora non è mai molto pesante (spessa). Abbiamo neve spessa in Scozia dove si scia, ma è a 400-500 chilometri a Nord da noi!
