Our Visit To The City of Manchester Stadium / la nostra visita alla città dello Stadio del Manchester

Where do your children go on day trips from school ? On Monday 13th July Class 4 had a trip to see a stadium preparing for the new Premier League soccer season.
Dove vanno i vostri bambini per le gite scolastiche di un giorno ? Lunedì 13 luglio la Classe 4 ha fatto una gita per vedere uno stadio che prepara per la nuova stagione di calcio della Premier League .
The stadium was built for the purpose of England staging the Commonwealth Games in 2002. The Commonwealth is a group of countries which used to be part of the British Empire . (Almost all those nations who speak English, for example : Canada , India , South Africa , Australia , Hong Kong , Pakistan , Jamaica , Kenya , New Zealand and many others)

Lo stadio fu costruito allo scopo di ospitare in Inghilterra i Giochi del Common wealth nel 2002. Il Commonwealth è un gruppo di paesi che facevano parte dell'Impero britannico. (Pressocché tutte quelle nazioni che parlano inglese, per esempio: Canada, India, Meridionale Africa Australia, Hong Kong, Pakistan Giamaica, Kenia la Nuova Zelanda e molti altri)
The stadium is interesting in that, at first, it had just 2 tiers of seating but when the Games were over they dug deep into the ground where the pitch is now so that a third tier of seats could also be added. The bottom third is therefore below ground level.
Lo stadio è interessante in ciò, inizialmente aveva solo 2 file di posti a sedere ma quando i Giochi finirono si scavò in fondo nel terreno dove ora è il campo così che anche una terza fila di posti potesse essere aggiunta . La terza (fila) più in basso è perciò sotto il livello del campo.

The Queen opened the Games in 2002 along with David Beckham and her leather chair is still in position. Some people feel that because the Manchester Games of 2002 were a success, it increased London ’s chances of being selected as the Olympics venue for 2012.
La Regina aprì i Giochi nel 2002 insieme a David Beckham e la sua sedia di cuoio è ancora in posizione. Alcune persone pensano che perché i Giochi di Manchester del 2002 sono stati un successo, ciò ha aumentato le opportunità per Londra di essere selezionata come la sede dei Giochi Olimpici del 2012.
There are air vents high up in the stadium which allow air to circulate during the week to help dry the pitch ( Manchester is a rainy city) but these are closed during games so the fans are not too cold ! There is a road underneath the stadium which ambulances use as well as the away team bus so it can enter the basement of the stadium.
Ci sono aperture per l'aria in alto su nello stadio che permettono all' aria di circolare durante la settimana per aiutare a mantenere asciutto il campo(Manchester è una città piovosa) ma queste sono chiuse durante giochi così gli spettatori non hanno troppo freddo! C'è una strada sotto lo stadio che usano le ambulanze così come l'autobus della squadra ospite che così può entrare nel sotterraneo dello stadio.
The stadium holds 48,000 fans – it is the fourth largest League ground in England . (only Manchester United, Arsenal and Sunderland are bigger) .
Lo stadio contiene 48,000 spettatori. E' il quarto campo più grande della Lega in Inghilterra. (solamente Manchester United, Arsenal e Sunderland sono più grandi).
Sportcity is the name of this area of East Manchester where all the Games were held. The national squash and cycling centres are here and we visited the Velodrome where the British cycling team (including Chris Hoy) are based half of the year. Some of the team were arriving for training when we were there. In Sportcity there is also an athletics track and a tennis centre.
Sportcity è il nome di questa area di Manchester Orientale dove tutti i Giochi sono stati tenuti. I centri di sqash e ciclistici nazionali sono qui e noi abbiamo visitato il Velodromo dove la squadra di ciclismo britannica (incluso Chris Hoy) si allena per la metà dell'anno. Alcune squadre stavano arrivando per allenarsi quando noi eravamo là. In Sportcity c'è anche una pista di atletica ed un centro tennistico.

After the games, Manchester City F.C. reached an agreement to take over the stadium and leave their home in South Manchester where they had been for over 100 years. They are the only major English club to have been started by a woman – she believed the local men in the 1870’s needed something to occupy them to stop their habit of drinking and getting into trouble !
Dopo i giochi, la F.C. cittadina di Manchester raggiunse un accordo per prendere lo stadio e lasciare la loro sede a sud di Manchester dove erano stati per oltre 100 anni. Loro sono l' unico maggior club inglese fondato da una donna. ella pensò che gli uomini locali nei 1870 avevano bisogno di qualche cosa che li occupasse per fermare la loro abitudine di bere e mettersi nei guai!
The exits are circular tubes, similar to the San Siro stadium in Milan , Italy . Our tour guide explained that this was because the ground can be emptied in 8 minutes in an emergency.

Le uscite sono tubi circolari, come allo stadio di San Siro a Milano, in Italia. La nostra guida ha spiegato che questo è perché il campo possa essere vuotato in 8 minuti in caso di emergenza.
Regular fans are the boxer Ricky Hatton and Liam and Noel Gallagher of the band, Oasis. In our photographs you will see us outside one of the executive boxes where wealthy fans have a 4 course meal before matches, us sitting in the directors’ leather chairs and also by the side of the pitch.

Spettatori abituali sono il pugile Ricky Hatton e Liam e Noel Gallagher del gruppo, Oasis. Nelle nostre fotografie ci vedrete fuori un settore esecutivo dove spettatori facoltosi consumano un pasto di 4 portate prima della partita, seduti sulle sedie di cuoio dei direttori ed anche al lato del campo.

Ed ora, dopo "i giochi dei nostri nonni", un po' degli sport e dei giochi che i bambini praticano a scuola oggi!

National School Sport Week 2009 / Settimana Sportiva Scolastica Nazionale 2009

Churchfields Primary School made a concerted effort to participate in this Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week by carrying out the following activities, in addition to normal P.E. lessons.

La Scuola Primaria Churchfields ha fatto uno sforzo notevole per partecipare a questa Settimana Sportiva Scolastica Nazionale Lloyds TSB portando avanti le seguenti attività,in aggiunta alle normali lezioni di attività Motoria.

The Year 4’s were taken to Chesterton High School ’s Sports Centre for basketball and five-a-side football.

I bambini del 4° anno sono stati portati al centro sportivo alla scuola superiore di Chesterton per il basket e il football a cinque.

Later that day Year 5’s, in association with numerous schools in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent , took part in the Guinness Book of World Records attempt at skipping. There were two independent witnesses who joined us to sign that they had seen 12 of our children pass the specified amount of time required to continuously skip.

Il giorno dopo i bambini del 5° anno, insieme a numerose scuole dello staffordshire e di Stoke- on- Trent, hanno preso parte al tentativo del Guinness Book dei Record Mondiali per il salto con la corda. C'erano due testimoni indipendenti che si sono uniti a noi nel segnalare che avevano visto 12 dei nostri bambini superare l'ammontare specificato del tempo richiesto per saltare ininterrottamente.

Year 5’s used the High School’s tennis courts to play various sets of mixed doubles which provided an added dimension to the skills they had been practising back at school.An inter-school rounders tournament took place at the High School. We also invited Friarswood Primary School to join us for an extra-curricular basketball game.

I bambini del 5°anno hanno usato il campo da tennis della scuola superiore per giocare vari set di doppio misto che hanno richiesto una maggiore dimensione alle competenze per cui si erano allenati a scuola. Un torneo di rounders inter-scolastico ha avuto luogo nella scuola superiore. Abbiamo anche invitato la Scuola Primaria Friarswood ad unirsi a noi per una partita di basket extracurriculare.

There was a lunchtime intra-school soccer competition which the ‘Yellow Tigers’ won.

C'è stata una gara di soccer interscolastica all'ora di pranzo che le " Tigri Gialle" hanno vinto.

There was aerobic activity for Year 3’s presented by former pupil Fay Braxton.

C'è stata un'attività di aerobica per i bambini del 3° anno presentata dall'ex allieva Fay Braxton.

An inter-school swimming gala was organised by Sarah Jackson (Chesterton Primary) and Sarah Beech, attended by three schools.

Un gala di nuoto inter-scolastico è stato organizzato da Sarah Jackson ( Primaria di Chesterton) e Sarah Beech, presenziato da tre scuole.

Key stage One would be targeted the following week with the following sessions :

• multi-skills session for Year 2’s


• a streetdance session for Years 1 and 2


• a family ‘mothers and toddlers’ swim for Reception children.

Il Key stage one ( il grado di base uno) avrebbe indirizzato la seguente settimana alle seguenti sessioni:

• sessione di multi-abilità per i bambini del 2° anno
• una sessione di danza per la strada per i bambini del 1° e del 2° anno
• una nuotata di famiglia " mamme e bambini" per i bambini dell'anno dell'accoglienza.

The scheme definitely raised the profile of sport in our school and gave some children the opportunity to ‘try out’ some sports they might not normally be exposed to. There ought to be one more often !!

Il progetto ha senza alcun dubbio innalzato il profilo sportivo della nostra scuola e ha dato ad alcuni bambini l'opportunità di provare alcuni sport con cui normalmente non sarebbero potuti venire a contatto. Ce ne dovrebbero essere più spesso!!

What we know about Italy!/ Ciò che sappiamo dell'Italia!

Each class of our school produced a big display on a country and - yes - I have chosen Italy for my class. Map, cities, personalities, some history. Started by asking the children WHAT they knew already. Our connection is that there was a Roman settlement here 2000 years ago because we were on a main marching route (we think) between Derby and Chester. Some children knew Rome was the capital city of Italy, that Italy are the current (soccer) World Cup holders and that pizza and pasta originate from Italy. About these last ones, the children enjoyed the story about the Margherita pizza originated in Naples when the Queen was visiting and a local pizza - maker wanted to show his patriotism by making a pizza in the colours of the Italy flag. Then we decided that we wanted to know about main towns, buildings and people which resulted in the Colliseum, the Vatican, the leaning tower of Pisa as well as the music of Pavarotti and Bocelli. Some children seemed to know the names of Leonardo (Da Vinci) and Michelangelo but further questioning revealed that they are the names of two cartoon superheroes from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Sporting enthusiasts knew that Rossi is the cycling champion and Capello is the England national team football manager !

Ogni classe della nostra scuola ha prodotto un grande cartellone su una nazione e – Sì- io ho scelto l’Italia per la mia classe. Cartina, città, personaggi, qualche storia. Ho cominciato chiedendo ai bambini CIÒ che già sapevano.
Il nostro collegamento è che c’era un accampamento romano qui 2000 anni fa perché eravamo sulla strada ( si pensa ) fra Derby e Chester. Qualche bambino sapeva che Roma era la capitale dell’Italia, che l’Italia è l’attuale detentrice della Coppa del Mondo e che la pizza e la pasta sono originarie dell’Italia. Riguardo queste ultime, ai bambini è piaciuta la storia della pizza Margherita che ha avuto origine a Napoli quando la Regina era in visita ed un pizzaiolo volle mostrare il suo patriottismo facendo una pizza con i colori della bandiera italiana. Poi abbiamo deciso che volevamo sapere delle città principali, delle costruzioni e delle persone che sono risultate essere il Colosseo, il Vaticano, la torre pendente di Pisa e anche la musica di Pavarotti e Bocelli. Qualche bambino sembrava conoscere i nomi di Leonardo ( Da Vinci) e Michelangelo ma ulteriori domande hanno rivelato che erano i nomi di due supereroi di cartoni delle Tartarughe Ninja mutanti adolescenti. Gli entusiasti dello sport sapevano che Rossi è un campione di motociclismo e che Capello è il manager della squadra nazionale dell’Inghilterra!

Visit to the Call Centre in Chesterton/ Visita al Call Centre di Chesterton

OUR SCHOOL’S VISIT TO THE VODAFONE CALL CENTRE IN CHESTERTON, NEWCASTLE-UNDER-LYME, UK.

Three of our classes (from Churchfields Primary School) visited Vodafone in October, 2008.
Vodafone are a large employer of call centre operators who deal with customer enquiries as well as sales. Some of our childrens’ parents work there so it was nice for those kids to see what their parents do. The centre is about 400 metres from our school and so it is just a 10 minute walk.
There is lots of very modern equipment and we were shown some brand new technology where hand-held computers are used to contact each other and see each other’s faces live.

Typical comments from the children indicated they thought it was “Amazing” and that the offices were really nice, “like a hotel.” We also discovered that when the offices were being built there in the 1970’s they found the foundations of a Roman house from nearly 2,000 years ago which included fancy pottery from that period. There also used to be a coal mine right next to where the offices are – times have indeed changed for Chesterton ! Some of the children thought they would like to work at Vodafone when they are older.

We discovered there are about 700 people working at the officers, Vodafone made over £500 million last year Worldwide (about three quarters of a billion euros) and the children particularly liked the chocolate treat they were given by Vodafone staff when it was time to leave and return to school !

LA NOSTRA VISITA SCOLASTICA AL CALL CENTRE VODAFONE DI CHESTERTON; NEWCASLE-UNDER-LYME, UK

Tre delle nostre classi ( della Scuola Primaria Churchfields) in ottobre 2008 hanno visitato la Vodafone.
Vodafone è un grande datore di lavoro di operatori di call centre che si occupano delle richieste dei clienti oltre che delle vendite. I genitori di alcuni dei nostri alunni lavorano lì, così è stato bello per quei ragazzi vedere cosa i genitori fanno. Il centro è a quasi 400 metri dalla nostra scuola e perciò è appena una passeggiata di 10 minuti.
Lì c’è un sacco di attrezzatura modernissima e ci è stata mostrata una nuova tecnologia dove computer portatili vengono usati per contattarsi e vedere la diretta faccia di ognuno.

I tipici commenti dei ragazzi facevano capire che essi pensavano che fosse “divertente” e che gli uffici fossero veramente belli, “come un hotel”. Abbiamo anche scoperto che lì, quando si costruivano gli uffici nel 1970, furono trovate le fondamenta di una casa romana di quasi 2000 anni fa che comprendeva ceramica decorata di quel periodo. C’era anche una miniera di carbone proprio accanto al luogo dove sono gli uffici. – I tempi sono cambiati per Chesterton! Alcuni bambini hanno pensato che piacerebbe loro lavorare alla Vodafone quando saranno grandi.

Abbiamo scoperto che negli uffici lavorano circa 700 persone,Vodafone l'anno scorso ha guadagnato in tutto il mondo oltre 500 milioni di sterline ( circa i tre quarti di un bilione di euro) e i bambini hanno gradito particolarmente la cioccolata data loro dallo staff di Vodafone quando è giunto il momento di andare via e tornare a scuola!
