Aspettando Babbo Natale / Waiting for Father Christmas

Fra le altre cose, i bambini italiani si preparano anche a ricevere i doni che Babbo Natale lascerà sotto l'albero la Notte di Natale. Ecco come gli alunni della 5^B lo immaginano nei loro disegni!

Among the other things, Italian children also prepare themselves to receive the presents Father Christmas will leave under the tree on Christmas Eve. Here the way 5 B pupils imagine him in their drawings!

Alberi, Presepi e Decorazioni natalizie/ Trees, Cribs and Christmas Decorations

Dai primi giorni di dicembre fino all'ultimo giorno prima delle vacanze natalizie, gli alunni di tutte le classi della nostra scuola primaria "A. Ciancia" e della scuola dell'infanzia "G. Rodari" sono stati impegnati in attività didattiche riguardanti il Natale. Insieme agli insegnanti, nelle varie classi, hanno addobbato alberi, allestito presepi, decorato le finestre, realizzato biglietti augurali e piccoli regali con le proprie mani per i loro genitori, intonato canti natalizi, preparato drammatizzazioni, imparato poesie, ricercato informazioni... il tutto per vivere tutti insieme, nel modo più consapevole e sentito, questo particolare momento dell'anno.
From the first days of December till the last day before the Christmas holidays, the pupils of all the classes of our "A. Ciancia" primary school and of the"G. Rodari" infant school were busy in didactical activities referred to Christmas. With all the teachers , in the various classrooms, they put up trees, set up cribs, decorated windows, made Christmas cards and little gifts with their own hands for their parents, sang Christmas carols, prepared dramas, learnt poems, searched information ... everythings to live all together, in the most conscious and heartfelt way, this particular time of the year.

ll clima di preparazione al Natale non è stato vissuto dagli alunni solo a scuola ma anche nelle proprie case. Anche lì, ognuno ha preparato il proprio presepe, il proprio albero, le proprie decorazioni in attesa del grande evento. I bambini della classe 5^B hanno fotografato alcuni dei loro preparativi.
The Christmas preparation atmosphere hasn't been lived only at school but in own homes as well. Also there, each one prepared his own crib, his own tree, his own decorations waiting the great event. The class 5 B children photographed some of their preparations.

Our preparations for Christmas

I want to tell you about our way to spent the last days before Christmas through a kind of diary about our preparations for this festivity in this last week:

Voglio parlarvi del nostro modo di trascorrere gli ultimi giorni prima di Natale attraverso una specie di diario sui nostri preparativi natalizi a scuola:

15-12- 2008
The children have made beautiful shiny (silver, gold) Christmas cards for their parents. I asked the children to think of THREE things to thank their parents for (not just material things but also those which cannot be bought with money - care, attention, love, etc.) and also ONE thing they would promise to do for their parents next year. (tidy their bedroom, look after a younger brother / sister or even a pet)

Then this afternoon we were invited to the local high school to see a performance of Dick Whitington. (a pantomime, where the audience are expected to join in and sing and shout things !) It is set in the middle ages and a young, poor boy travels to London to find work. He finds love with Alice but first he has to fight off some cruel people who are selfish and intending to rob the people Dick works for. The cast sang a song from High School Musical and they even mentioned me ! "That guy in the audience with the long hair !"

Poi questo pomeriggio siamo stati invitati presso una scuola superiore locale per vedere una rappresentazione di Dick Whitington( una pantomima, dove il pubblico può essere coinvolto nel cantare e gridare cose!).È ambientata nel Medioevo e un povero, giovane ragazzo viaggia verso Londra per trovare lavoro. Si innamora di Alice, ma prima deve lottare contro persone crudeli che sono egoiste ed intendono derubare le persone per i lavori di Dick. Il cast ha cantato una canzone di High School Music ed hanno perfino menzionato me! “Quel tipo fra il pubblico con i capelli lunghi!”

When we returned to school, (and after the children had gone home) we had our first proper staff rehearsal of Cinderella. It is - yet again - a pantomime. The Prince cannot find a bride and so his mother and father, the King and Queen, organise a ball (large party) for him to meet - hopefully - a beautiful lady. It all turns out happily for him in the end, the rehearsals are very funny because we are all quite hopeless as actors and giggle too much ! The show takes place Thursday morning.

Quando siamo tornati a scuola, (dopo che i bambini erano andati a casa) abbiamo fatto la nostra prima dello staff scelto di Cenerentola. È, ancora una volta , una pantomima. Il principe non riesce a trovare una sposa e perciò sua madre e suo padre, il Re e la Regina, organizzano un ballo ( una grande festa)per lui perché incontri, invano, una bella dama. Tutto finisce bene per lui alla fine, le prove sono molto divertenti perché siamo tutti quasi senza speranze come attori e ridacchiamo con imbarazzo veramente troppo! Lo spettacolo avrà luogo giovedì mattina.

here's today's instalment of Christmas preparations :a local church have sent cards for all the children,the violin group (for Year 3 children - aged 7,8) are preparing for a concert for parents.The choir over the next couple of days will be visiting an old persons' (pensioners) retirement home across the road from the school. They will sing to the residents and also will be visiting a hospital about one mile from us (nearly two kilometres) from us and will sing to one of the wards there.A second rehearsal takes place tonight (after school) for our staff who will perform 'Cinderella' on Thursday morning.

Ecco l’ordine del giorno dei preparativi natalizi:
la chiesa locale ha mandato dei biglietti per tutti i bambini,
il gruppo dei violini(per i bambini del 3° anno-7,8 anni) sta preparando un concerto per i genitori,
il coro per i prossimi due giorni farà visita ad una casa per pensionati attraverso la strada della scuola. Canteranno per gli ospiti e visiteranno anche un ospedale a circa un miglio da noi ( quasi due chilometri) e canteranno in una delle corsie lì.
Una seconda prova avrà luogo stasera ( dopo la scuola) per il nostro staff che rappresenterà “Cenerentola” giovedì mattina.

Today's stuff :the kids have brought in CD's and they will decide the music for our dance party, yes I know it sounds like TOO much fun really but at least they're keeping fit !Their favourites seem to be :High School Musical, Rihanna, Pussycat Dolls, Abba Girls Aloud, Cascada and we have a DVD showing party dance moves which they can copy from the screen, they are :Cha Cha Slide,The Ketchup Song,Macarena,YMCA,It's A Tragedy,Saturday Night,Achy Breaky Heart.

Gli impegni di oggi:i ragazzi hanno portato dei CD e decideranno la musica per la nostra festa danzante, sì so che sembra TROPPO divertente in realtà ma almeno si mantengono in forma!
Le loro preferite sembrano essere:High School Musical, Rihanna, Pussycat Dolls, Abba, Girls Aloud, Cascada. Abbiamo un DVD che mostra movimenti per feste danzanti che possono copiare dallo schermo, sono:
Cha Cha Slide, The Ketchup Song,Macarena, YMCA, It's A Tragedy Saturday Night, Achy Breaky Heart.
Then we will finish the Nativity Story covering the Anunciation from Angel gabriel, the journey to Bethlehem, staying at the inn, the shepherds visited by the angel, fleeing Herod's men.Tonight is the final rehearsal of the Staff Band - yes there is a band !1 piano, 1 keyboards, 3 flutes, 3 African drums and maybe 3 or 4 singers.

Poi finiremo la Storia della natività che va dall’annunciazione dell’angelo Gabiele, il viaggio verso Betlemme, il soggiorno alla locanda, i pastori visitati dall’angelo,sfuggendo gli uomini di Erode.
Questa sera la prova finale del complesso dello staff- Sì c’è un complesso!
1 pianoforte, 1 tastiera, 3 flauti, tre tamburi africani e forse 3 o 4 cantanti.

I'll just tell you about tomorrow our last day of the year at school.We start with 'Wake Up Shake Up', this happens every day from 8:30 - 8:50, 20 minutes exercise to music for those pupils who choose to participate. Just after 9:00 the pantomime will start, it is very silly and supposed to be funny - the audience are encouraged to shout things at the actors. Then the staff "Band" will play 5 songs which the children will join in with.Oh Little Drummer Boy, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Jingle Bells, Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer, Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree.

Vi dirò di domani:nostro ultimo giorno dell’anno a scuola.
Cominciamo con “ Svegliatevi Agitatevi”, questo avviene ogni giorno dalle 8:30-8:50, 20 minuti di esercizi con la musica per quegli alunni che scelgono di partecipare. Subito dopo, 9:00, la pantomima comincerà, è molto sciocca e suppongo sia divertente – il pubblico viene incoraggiato a gridare cose agli attori. Poi il complesso dello staff suonerà 5 canzoni alle quali i bambini si uniranno.

Later my class will have a little party in the class with pop, crisps, biscuits, some chocolate, this would be the ONLY day they would be allowed sweet things to eat during school time , at the end of the day they might be shown a film (or part of a film) as a treat such as Scrooge, Home Alone, Christmas with the Muppets, in other words a film with a Christmas theme.By the way, tonight our primary school choir sing with other local primary schools at the local trinity Church. (It is Church of England)

Più tardi la mia classe farà una piccola festa in classe con pop corn, patatine, biscotti, della cioccolata, questo sarà l’UNICO giorno in cui saranno permesse cose dolci da mangiare durante l’orario scolastico, alla fine della giornata sarà fatto vedere un film (o parte di un film) come un estratto di Scrooge, Home Alone, Natale con i Muppets, in altre parole un film di argomento natalizio.
A proposito, questa sera il coro della nostra scuola primaria, canterà con le altre scuole primarie locali nella nostra Chiesa della trinità ( la Chiesa di Inghilterra).

Aspettando Natale /Waiting for Christmas

Nel mese di Dicembre a scuola abbiamo lavorato e preparato tante cose per il Natale. Abbiamo imparato e cantato canti natalizi, abbiamo addobbato un albero riciclando bottiglie e bicchieri di plastica, abbiamo preparato, come lavoretto, la "scopina scacciaguai".
La "scopina scacciaguai" è un piccola scopa che, non solo nel periodo di Natale, si tiene dietro la porta perchè, si dice, tenga lontano tutti i guai da casa.
Così, aspettando il Natale, ci siamo divertiti stando insieme in armonia.
During the month of December at school we worked and prepared a lots of things for Christmas. We learnt and sang Christmas Carols, we put up a tree recycling plastic bottles and glasses, we made, as a little work, the "little throw away troubles broom".
The "little throw away troubles broom" is a little broom that, not only in Christmas time, is kept behind the door because, they say, it keeps away all the troubles from the home.
So, waiting for Christmas, we had fun staying together in harmony.

Con le nostre voci , un po' stonate, intoniamo il più tradizionale dei nostri canti natalzi, "TU SCENDI DALLE STELLE", e vi mostriamo il nostro presepe e le nostre vetrate realizzate in classe aspettando il Natale.

With our voices, a little tone-deaf, we intonate the most traditional in our Christmas Carols, "TU SCENDI DALLE STELLE", and show you our Crib and our window displays made in the classroom waiting for Christmas.

I nostri "lavoretti"natalizi /Our Christmas little gifts

Tradizionalmente , nella nostra scuola, gli insegnanti e gli alunni di ogni classe preparano insieme dei "lavoretti" natalizi, piccoli doni che ogni bambino porterà a casa, l'ultimo giorno di scuola prima delle vacanze natalizie, e darà ai propri genitori.

Traditionally, in our school, the teachers and the pupils of each class made together some Christmas " little works", little gifts that each child will bring home, in the last day before Christmas holidays, and will give their parents.

Our Christmas pantomime/ La nostra pantomima di Natale

The staff performed a pantomime for the children at Churchfields on the day before the school closed for the Christmas holiday. This is a traditional British custom where an old legend or fairy tale (this year we chose Goldilocks and The Three Bears) is acted out in a very silly manner, sometimes the female parts are played by men and also the audience is encouraged to join in by shouting out messages to the actors. (such as “Watch out ! He’s behind you !”)17 staff took part this year, the funniest performance was given by Mr. Robotham who played the part of a detective from Glasgow (Taggart) who tried to solve the mystery of the missing girl, Goldilocks. As always, there wasa happy ending with cast all dancing to ‘Celebrate Good times – Come On !’

A Churchfields lo staff ha realizzato una pantomima per i bambini il giorno prima che la scuola chiudesse per le vacanze natalizie. Questa è un'usanza tradizionale britannica nella quale una vecchia leggenda o una fiaba ( quest'anno abbiamo scelto "Riccioli d'oro ed i tre orsi") viene recitata in una maniera veramente strana, a volte le parti femminili vengono interpretate da uomini ed anche il pubblico viene incoraggiato ad unirsi ad essa gridando messaggi agli attori.( come " Attento!" E' dietro di te!") 17 insegnanti hanno preso parte quest'anno, l'interpretazione più divertente è stata realizzata da Mr. Robotham che recitava la parte di un detective di Glasgow ( Taggart) che cercava di risolvere il mistero della ragazza scomparsa, Riccioli d'oro. Come sempre, c'è stato un lieto fine con tutto il cast che ha ballato su " Celebrate Good times - Come on!"

A CD for Christmas! / Un CD per Natale!

What have we been up to at CHURCHFIELDS PRIMARY SCHOOL ?

Churchfields children lived the life of pop stars after releasing their first CD called ‘The Best Churchfields CD Ever....!’The CD idea came about because Music teacher Jane Swarbrick knew of a charity, the Hampi Trust, which pays for street children in India to attend school.A professional sound recording engineer was employed to record the choirs , classes and drummers performing some of their favourite songs and hymns. There were 100 copies of the CD produced which sold out very quickly as parents snapped them up for Christmas !The teachers even joined in by recording a song called ‘KIDS’ which asked the question over and over : “Kids ! What the devil is wrong wit these kids today ?” Some of the songs can be heard on our e-twinning Twinspace.

Cosa siamo stati intenti a fare nella SCUOLA PRIMARIA CHURCHFIELDS?

Gli alunni di Churchfields hanno sperimentato la vita delle pop star dopo la pubblicazione del loro primo CD dal titolo "The Best Churchfields CD Ever....!".
L'idea del CD è nata perchè l'insegnante di musica Jane Swarbrick conosceva un ente di carità, Hampi Trust, che dispone fondi per far frequentare la scuola ai bambini indiani abbandonati.
Un ingegnere della registrazione del suono professionale è stato impegnato a registrare i cori, le classi ed i musicisti che eseguivano alcune delle loro canzoni e inni preferiti. C'erano 100 copie di CD prodotti che sono stati venduti molto rapidamente poichè i genitori li hanno divorati per Natale!
Persino gli insegnanti hanno partecipato registrando una canzone intitolata "Kids!What devil is wrong with these kids today?"( Ragazzi! Cosa diavolo c'e di sbagliato in questi ragazzi oggi!).
